Chinese hospital ship Silk Road Ark arrives in Port Moresby to deliver free medical services

The Chinese hospital ship, Silk Road Ark arrived yesterday in Port Moresby and is now docked at Downtown’s T Wharf, bringing with it a range of free medical services for local residents.

The floating hospital will provide essential healthcare, including surgeries, as part of its humanitarian mission.

According to local media reports, services in dentistry, internal medicine, and ophthalmology will be available to the public from April 9 which is today through April 13.

Commissioned in 2024, the Silk Road Ark is a modern, large-scale floating hospital often described as a “lifeline at sea.”

The vessel represents China’s continued commitment to international medical outreach and emergency response support.

The Silk Road Ark is distinct from the earlier hospital ship Peace Ark, which previously visited Papua New Guinea and other Pacific nations, including a mission to the region in 2018.
