Acting Managing Director and CEO of the National Airports Corporation, Dominic Kaumu, says upgrade works at Hoskins Airport in West New Britain Province are progressing steadily, with both airside and landside developments now 32 percent complete.
Mr. Kaumu said the contractor has already completed Method of Working Plan (MOWP) Stages One to Four and is currently carrying out works under Stage Five of the project.

CEO Kaumu confirmed that Stage Six of the MOWP is scheduled to commence on March 4, 2026, subject to the issuance of a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM).
MD Kaumu explained that once Stage Six begins, the 1,900-metre runway at Hoskins Airport will be temporarily reduced to 1,110 meters, allowing only Dash 8 or smaller aircraft to operate at the airport during the construction period.
Mr. Kaumu said the runway restriction may affect passenger travel and cargo movements to and from West New Britain Province but emphasized that the upgrades are necessary to ensure safety, security, efficiency and reliable airport services.
He added that construction schedules remain subject to weather conditions, and any changes will be communicated to airlines, stakeholders and the travelling public.
He also apologized for the temporary inconvenience caused by the restrictions.
He thanked the people of West New Britain and entire country for their patience and cooperation as the airport upgrade progresses.
