The National Gaming Control Board (NGCB) will commence the construction of 21 new staff houses in Port Moresby following a groundbreaking ceremony held recently as part of its ongoing staff housing program.
NGCB Chief Executive Officer and Registrar Imelda Agon said the housing project is a long-term investment aimed at improving employee welfare and supporting the future of staff and their families.

She in a statement yesterday said the initiative reflects the organization’s commitment to rewarding dedicated employees while addressing housing challenges faced by workers.
The new homes form part of the NGCB Staff Housing Scheme, established to assist employees with more than five years of service and expand opportunities for staff to achieve home ownership.
Speaking during the ceremony, Ms. Agon described the initiative as a long-term investment in the welfare and future of employees and their families.
Ms. Agon said the NGCB Staff Housing Scheme was established to reward loyal and committed staff who have dedicated more than five years of service to the organization.
However, she emphasized that the initiative was also inspired by the difficult living conditions faced by many hardworking employees.
“I recall a time when the office assistant shared with me the challenges of his living conditions in a settlement despite being hardworking, committed, and dedicated to his duties,” Ms. Agon said.
“That experience opened my eyes to the reality faced by many employees who continued to report to work every day, deliver results, and serve the organization diligently despite facing difficult housing conditions and lacking access to proper homes for their families.”
Ms. Agon said those experiences became the driving force behind the establishment of the NGCB Housing Scheme.
“From that concern and compassion came the vision for this initiative — a program designed not only to support staff welfare, but to restore dignity, stability, and hope for our employees and their families,” she added.
The CEO and Registrar said NGCB recognizes its employees as the backbone of the organization and remains committed to investing in their wellbeing and future.
One of the recipients of the newly allocated allotments, Lynn Jim, expressed gratitude to NGCB under the leadership of Ms. Agon for being selected as a beneficiary of the housing scheme.
She said the initiative would have a significant impact on the lives of staff and their families by providing stability, security and peace of mind through access to proper housing.
“Owning a home would not only ease the financial and emotional burden often associated with accommodation challenges but would also create a safer and more supportive environment for families and children,” Ms. Jim said.
She thanked the organization for prioritizing employee welfare and providing staff with an opportunity to build a better future for themselves and their families.
Since the scheme was established in 2016, a total of 26 current and former staff members have benefited, with six additional employees expected to occupy their houses in the coming weeks.
Ms. Agon said the allocation of 21 new allotments demonstrates NGCB’s continued commitment to expanding opportunities for more staff to realize the dream of home ownership.
She also revealed that work is underway to review and strengthen the existing housing policy to ensure it remains relevant, sustainable and aligned with current standards and the evolving needs of employees.
“This initiative is more than just building houses — it is about building futures, strengthening families, and creating a more secure and motivated workforce for the organization,” she said.
Ms. Agon encouraged all beneficiaries to continue serving the organization with commitment, integrity and excellence.
The groundbreaking ceremony marks another milestone in NGCB’s efforts to improve staff welfare and promote long-term social and economic stability for its workforce and their families.
