LANDSLIDE LEFT 3 DEAD, 1 INJURED

A landslide, occurred yesterday morning at Wanenga village in Mala Kinjibi LLG of Western Highlands Province’s Dei District, has left three dead while one being seriously injured.

The natural disaster happened at 10am due to heavy rainfall experienced in the area.

Community youth leader Issac Robert, who sought assistance from the government authorities, told the author today that the trio-two children and one elderly man, were still being covered with high volumes of soil.

He said they were unable to retrieve the bodies despite local efforts exerted.

The injured father,38, of the two kids is being hospitalized at the Kudjip Hospital in Jiwaka Province.

“We can’t be able to retrieve the bodies. We really need assistance from the National Disaster Office or any other relevant government authorities to retrieve the bodies (immediately),” he messaged PNG SUN on its Facebook platform.

“It was around 10am yesterday, they were gardening without knowing that landslide would occur. The father of the kids managed to escape (when the disaster struck) while the 3 others covered by soil. Youths from 5 council wards tried their best to retrieve the dead bodies but they couldn’t due to high volumes of soil,” he told PNG SUN.
