Former Commissioner-General for the Internal Revenue Commission (IRC) Sam Koim is amongst 25 candidates who have nominated for the Dei by-election in Western Highlands Province.
Two others featured prominently are the later former MP’s son Jeremiah Pim and, petioner and former MP Westly Nukundj.
Koim is running for the by-election as an independent candidate.
Having spent more than 16 years in public service, it was reported on local media that Mr Koim has been motivated to contest the parliamentary seat to advocate for tougher laws and policies to deal with corruption and lawlessness in the country.
He nominated on Wednesday, a day after his resignation from IRC.
He resigned from the office because Parliament has passed a law to establish a board within the commission, one of the World Bank recommended reforms.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister James Marape commended him for serving the country in that role with high distinction.
